For DB Schenker to achieve its ambitious climate goal, it means particularly moving away from fossil fuels used in transportation and transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Here are some measures that have already been taken to reduce harmful greenhouse emissions:
In 2021, DB Schenker was the first in Finland to deploy fully electric FUSO eCanter delivery vehicles in Turku and the metropolitan area. At the new regional terminal in Lempäälä, Tampere, five fully electric trucks will begin operating delivery services in Tampere city center. In Europe, DB Schenker has ordered nearly 1,500 fully electric Volta Zero trucks for urban deliveries.
DB Schenker further reduces its carbon footprint by using Neste MY renewable diesel in HCT combinations and city distribution. Using Neste MY renewable diesel, made from waste and residues, can reduce delivery greenhouse emissions and carbon footprint by up to 90 percent.
Additionally, DB Schenker operates about ten gas-powered trucks and has ordered the same amount more. These vehicles have switched to using biogas, which significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to using traditional fossil fuels.
Electric-assisted cargo bikes are an environmentally friendly and convenient way to handle urban distribution in major city centers. This summer, DB Schenker is using cargo bikes for city distribution in Helsinki.
DB Schenker's new properties utilize self-produced solar energy and geothermal heat. Additionally, all purchased electricity is origin-certified 100% wind power.
DB Schenker helps its customers choose environmentally sustainable transportation methods. Eco Solutions are available for land, sea, and air transportation in Europe.
