How to Send a Shipment with Shipit

You can create shipments either by connection Shipit to your webshop, ERP-, WMS-, CRM-systems, or you can use our shipping tool for shipment creation.

  1. Enter Your Postal Code

    • If shipping from your home location, start by entering your postal code.

  2. Enter the Recipient’s Postal Code

    • Ensure the postal code is in the correct format. Different countries and regions have varying postal code structures, sometimes including letters and spaces.

  3. Enter Package Dimensions and Weight

    • Provide the length, width, and height in centimeters, as well as the weight in kilograms.

    • If shipping multiple packages to the same recipient, add the correct number of packages in the calculator and enter their size details. Default dimensions match the first package but can be adjusted.

  4. Select a Delivery Method

    • Choose the shipping carrier and whether you want home delivery or pickup point delivery.

    • Note that many shipping options require a printer to print the shipping label and possibly a proforma invoice, depending on the destination.

  5. Check Service Details

    • When selecting a delivery method, a service description will appear, explaining:

      • Whether a printer is needed

      • Whether the package will be picked up or needs to be dropped off

      • Available drop-off and pickup points

    • UPS drop-off points can be found at Find Locations | UPS - Finland.

  6. Enter Sender and Recipient Details

    • Ensure phone numbers are included, as delivery notifications are typically sent via SMS or email.

    • Provide package contents, e.g., “clothing,” “toys,” “electronics,” etc.

  7. For Shipments Outside the EU

    • Fill in customs documents such as a commercial invoice, proforma invoice, or Posti export form in English.

    • Include details about the items, their weight, and value, along with the total weight and value.

    • Specify the reason for export.

  8. Confirm Shipment Contents

    • Declare that you are not shipping dangerous goods.

    • Accept the terms and conditions.

  9. Proceed to Payment

    • If logged in, you can activate the Shipit Wallet to deposit money and pay for shipments conveniently.

    • Payment options include online banking, MobilePay, or credit card.

    • Business customers in Finland can apply for an invoicing account to consolidate all shipments into a single invoice.

  10. Print Shipping Documents

  • Once the payment is confirmed, your shipment is created, and you will receive the necessary shipping documents.

  • For non-EU shipments, also print the proforma invoice/commercial invoice and, in the case of UPS shipments, email it to UPS along with your personal ID or business registration number for customs clearance.

  1. Pack the Shipment Securely

  • Ensure durable packaging.

  • Attach shipping documents to the package so that the barcode is clearly visible.

  • The proforma invoice/commercial invoice can be placed in a plastic sleeve or taped securely.

  1. Drop Off or Schedule a Pickup

  • Take the package to the designated drop-off point or arrange for pickup if the service includes it.

  • If using UPS, send the necessary customs details via email.

  1. Track Your Shipment

  • Use the tracking number provided in your email confirmation to track the package on the carrier’s website.

How to Choose the Best Shipping Method?

  • The most suitable shipping method depends on your specific needs, including the size of the shipment, destination, pickup and delivery options, and the required delivery time.

  • Time-Sensitive Deliveries

    If your package must arrive by a specific time, choose a scheduled delivery service that guarantees a set timeframe. Suitable options include:
    ✔ Posti Aamuksi 09 (Morning delivery by 9 AM)
    ✔ Express 16 (Delivery by 4 PM)
    ✔ UPS Express

    Note: During peak seasons or force majeure situations, shipping companies may suspend delivery guarantees.

  • Large or Heavy Shipments

    If your shipment is too large or heavy to be sent as a standard parcel, you may need freight shipping.
    ✔ Maximum package weight varies by carrier:

    • Posti: Up to 25 kg

    • Most other carriers: Up to 35 kg per parcel
      ✔ If a shipment exceeds 35 kg, it may need to be split into multiple packages or sent as freight.
      ✔ Shipments over 35 kg should be packed on a pallet for secure transport.

    • Pickup Services for Large Shipments

    In addition to UPS, Bring, Netlux, and PostNord, Posti also offers pickup services for packages.
    ✔ If you are a billing or wallet customer and sending a large volume of packages, you can request Posti pickup from your location via our customer service. Pickup is a paid service.
