Remember to pack and protect your shipment properly.

Please note that factory packaging is often not sufficient or designed for parcel shipping.

Attach the printed address label to the package so that the entire barcode is clearly visible.

Careful and proper packaging is essential. Incorrectly packed shipments can cause harm to people, other shipments, and the product may not withstand the stress during transport. Poor packaging may cause delivery delays and additional costs for freight. The shipment may also be stopped completely and returned to the sender.

During transit, the shipment may go through several loading and unloading phases.

Below are some guidelines for proper packaging to ensure smooth shipment flow.

Packages:

  • Always choose the right type of packaging

Used cardboard boxes lose their durability.

Ensure that the packaging material is sturdy and in good condition.

Factory packaging is normally not sufficient for parcel shipments.

  • Try to always fill the box completely

Always fill the box completely. Add padding if necessary to prevent the product from moving.

  • Seal the package carefully with tape

Seal the package carefully with tape. H-pattern taping is the best option.

  • Make shipping markings clearly

Remember to remove old labels and markings, especially old hazardous materials markings.

The barcode must be straight, not folded over the edge.

  • Heavy packages

Packages over 70 kg must always be on a pallet, Posti packages must be placed on a pallet starting from 35 kg. Remember to also attach a HEAVY label to packages over 23 kg

Pallets:

Pallets can only be sent by selecting PALLET or PALLET not stackable, not as parcel shipment.

  • Load tightly and compactly

Pack pallets evenly and tightly, if possible in an overlapping pattern.

The pallet must be stackable.

Factory packaging is often not sufficient for pallet shipments unless the shipment is sent as is, often factories send such large quantities that transport is handled without intermediate stops to the recipient in factory deliveries.

  • Do not exceed edges

Items must be entirely on the pallet without exceeding the edges.

No part of the shipment should hang outside or protrude through the pallet gaps.

  • Level pallet surface

A level surface makes the pallet more durable and easier to stack other shipments on top.

Many transport companies charge extra for NON-stackable shipments.

  • Secure carefully with straps or packaging film

Secure packages to the pallet with straps or packaging film.

Remember that the greater the mass of the product, the better the securing needs to be. Plastic straps are not sufficient to hold e.g., an engine in place.

  • Location of shipping documents on the pallet

Pallets are often stacked on top of each other, so labels and transport documents should be attached to the side of the shipment, not on top. Also mark the center of gravity if it is unusual.

PAINTINGS and ART OBJECTS:

When shipping paintings or other art objects, special attention must be paid to their packaging. Transport companies often do not compensate paintings and other art objects according to their value, as the road transport law does not require it and the value of art is difficult to determine. Packaging should be done so that the valuable item definitely remains intact during transit. When shipping paintings, the best way would be to send just the painting without the frame, rolled in a sturdy tube. If this is not possible, the painting should be packed between two pieces of plywood, preferably in its own transport box, e.g., wooden, well-padded and with protected corners, so that nothing can damage the corners, or pierce or dent the canvas. The shipment experiences several loadings, unloadings, and line handling during transit, and regular transport companies do not have special handling for art objects. We recommend obtaining transport insurance from your own insurance company for valuable shipments
