We recommend removing batteries from toys, flashlights, and other products before making a shipping order abroad. Please note that loose batteries are also prohibited in normal international shipping.

As of January 1, 2020, regulations require that all lithium batteries included in shipments must have a UN 38.3 test report. The report does not need to accompany the shipment, but it must be available if requested by the airline.

1. The following lithium battery shipments (in section 1) are exempt from dangerous goods transport markings:

One device may contain a maximum of two batteries installed in the device. Please ensure that the battery watt-hours do not exceed permitted limits.

NOTE! When sending a package abroad through Posti that contains a lithium battery, the battery must be installed inside the device. Additional batteries cannot be sent even in original packaging. Please also check country-specific restrictions here.

You may send a maximum of two devices packed in separate boxes with lithium batteries (Max. 2 batteries, 4 cells per device. E.g., 4 laptops in two separate packages) installed in the devices. However, devices must be packed in hard boxes, it must be ensured that devices cannot turn on during transport, and they must be protected against short circuits.

You cannot send e.g., 3 laptops or 3 mobile phones in the same package. For toys containing 4 batteries: remove the batteries before sending.

2. Shipping lithium batteries must always comply with international transport-specific regulations. These include specific packaging methods, possible documentation, and training requirements.

Note that damaged batteries cannot be shipped by air. If you suspect a battery is damaged, please contact the shipping company for clarification.

Shipping companies have different practices for lithium battery shipments. If you are unsure about your shipment, please contact your chosen shipping company. Country-specific restrictions may also apply.

Lithium batteries can be classified into two categories:

1. Lithium metal batteries (disposable), which are common single-use batteries used in watches, calculators, or small radios. These batteries cannot be shipped separately by air. Check with your chosen shipping company for their practices.

2. Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable batteries used in devices like mobile phones and laptops. Most consumer lithium-ion batteries do not exceed 100 watt-hours.

UN codes for loose Lithium batteries:

⦁ UN 3090, Lithium metal batteries

⦁ UN 3480, Lithium ion batteries

Batteries installed in equipment or packed with equipment:

⦁ UN 3091, Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment
⦁ UN 3091, Lithium metal batteries packed with equipment
⦁ UN 3481, Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment
⦁ UN 3481, Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment

Packaging
Battery-specific packing instructions must always be considered. The packing instruction depends on the type of battery shipment (loose battery, installed in equipment, or packed with equipment) and the battery power. The sender generally requires transport-specific training or, in some exceptional cases, at least instructions on how to pack lithium batteries. If you are unsure about the practices, contact your chosen shipping company for guidance.

Shipping
For return shipments, contact the seller or other party who can assist with returning the device. All shippers must comply with international regulations governing lithium battery shipping. If the device manufacturer requests a return due to a faulty battery, it cannot be shipped by air.
