Changes to U.S.-bound goods shipments (August 22, 2025)
Duty-free removed: From Aug 29, 2025, all commercial shipments require customs duties to be paid.
Postal temporary suspension: Several countries Postal Offices, including Finnish Posti, will suspend commercial shipments to the U.S. until further notice.
Last shipping date: Friday, Aug 22, 2025 (parcels and goods letters).
Exceptions: Document shipments and gifts between individuals valued up to USD 100.
Shipit support: You can still send parcels via UPS. Shipit automatically submits UPS Paperless® Invoice for all shipments.
Please ensure: 10-digit TARIC code, goods value, and clear goods description.
The U.S. administration has decided to remove the duty-free allowance for shipments valued up to USD 800, effective August 29, 2025. As a result, all commercial goods shipments to the United States will require customs duties to be paid before import.
Since payment systems are not yet available and no detailed guidance has been provided by the authorities, several national postal operators – including Finnish Posti – will suspend commercial goods shipments to the United States until further notice.
The last shipping date for parcels and letters containing goods is Friday, August 22, 2025.

Gifts sent between private individuals with a value of up to USD 100
These shipments can still be sent to the United States as usual.
European postal operators are working closely with U.S. Customs authorities and the Universal Postal Union to find a solution. The aim is to resume commercial goods shipments as soon as possible.
Through Shipit, you can still send parcels to the United States, for example via UPS. However, please note that recipients may not yet be aware of the new import duty requirements. This could lead to challenges similar to those experienced during Brexit and may also cause unnecessary returns, with costs falling on the sender.
