UPS Seasonal Changes and New Requirements for Shipments to the United States

Starting October 1, 2025, UPS requires that all shipments to the United States include a 10-digit HS code. This requirement applies only to shipments destined for the United States, not to other countries.

What does this mean for the sender?

The sender must ensure that the customs documentation includes:

  • Complete and accurate product information and item description

  • Country of origin/manufacture

  • U.S. 10-digit HS code

  • Quantity and value of goods

  • Recipient’s contact details and email address

  • Importer’s tax ID (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN), if required

Important note for shipments to the U.S.

We recommend clearly stating already at the order stage (e.g., at checkout) that the recipient is responsible for all local taxes and fees. This helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures smoother deliveries.

  • The recipient pays duties and taxes based on the shipment’s contents, value, and country of origin.

  • If the recipient refuses to accept the shipment, the costs will be charged to the sender — even if the shipment is returned or destroyed.

Please note: UPS does not accept shipments containing food items to the U.S.

UPS Seasonal Changes, Autumn–Winter 2025

Due to market conditions, UPS will apply temporary surcharges from September 28, 2025 – January 17, 2026:

  • International Air Shipments (Express, Express Saver, Express Plus, Expedited, Worldwide Express Freight): surcharge applies on selected lanes and services.

  • Domestic shipments and international ground shipments (Standard, Express, Express Saver, Express Plus, Worldwide Standard): surcharge applies to deliveries to residential addresses. Commercial deliveries are not subject to this fee.

The surcharge is based on the billable weight for international shipments and per-package pricing for domestic shipments.

All surcharges are updated automatically in the Shipit system – meaning no hidden fees or surprise invoices afterward.
