In Industryhack_s VAT the Hack competition, we tackle the complexities of cross-border trade and aim to clarify the customer experience on both sides.
Due to Åland's unique tax border arrangement, local consumers in particular have difficulties making online purchases from outside Åland without often paying double VAT. Similarly, the tax border slows down the region's digital development as merchants find the tax border problematic.
This issue was voted as the biggest concern by the island's residents.
The competition aims to increase Finnish and European merchants' knowledge about cross-border trade while helping Åland customers order products from Finnish online stores, for example, more seamlessly than before.
