Do you have Shopify's Basic plan, or the Grow plan without the CCS feature?

This guide is for you. Follow the steps below and you'll quickly and easily get the Shipit Delivery & Checkout app's shipping methods running smoothly at your checkout, with shipping labels printing effortlessly for each order.

Table of Contents

  1. Shipit Delivery & Checkout app settings

  2. Creating default parcel sizes

  3. Creating a shipping method

  4. Shopify settings: Delivery and Shipping

  5. Processing a new order

1. Shipit Delivery & Checkout App Settings

  1. API Settings – Add your API key. You can find it in your Shipit account by logging in at shipit.fi and going to Settings (gear icon) → Organization Settings → API Credentials.

  2. Sender – Sender details: enter all your company information, including your Business ID (Y-tunnus) and VAT number, as well as your EORI number if you have one.

  3. Shipment – This section covers how shipment contents are described on waybills and shipping labels. Some carriers require this information even for domestic shipments, so it's worth filling in unless the product requires special privacy considerations. The "International Shipments Only" section additionally defines how individual products are described on customs documents (commercial invoices, CN22/CN23 forms) — this only applies to international shipments, particularly parcels going outside the EU that require detailed product information for customs clearance. It has no effect on domestic shipments.

  4. Automation – For both Shipment Automation and Fulfillment Automation, select "On Label download". This lets you process an order and create a shipping label in just a couple of clicks.

2. Creating Default Parcel Sizes

Next, go to Parcel Settings. Depending on the sizes of your shipments, create two default parcel sizes:

Small domestic shipments

For example, Matkahuolto's XXS Package, Posti's Small Parcel to door or mailbox.

  • Recommended default parcel size: 15 × 15 × 3 cm, 1 kg

Other shipments

For example, Matkahuolto's Lähellä Package, Posti's Parcel, DSV Pickup Point Parcel, PostNord Locker and Pickup Point Parcel, GLS ShopDeliveryService, Matkahuolto's International Lähellä Package, and Posti Parcel Connect.

  • Create a default parcel size with the dimensions: 15 × 15 × 15 cm, 1 kg

If you don't have small shipments, it's enough to create just the 15 × 15 × 15 cm, 1 kg size.

See detailed instructions for creating default parcel sizes: https://shipit.fi/en-US/shopify-shipit-delivery-checkout#tip-parcel-settings-parcel-sizes

Please note: if you add multiple default parcel sizes to a single shipping method, the shipment will be treated as a multi-parcel shipment — the system will print as many shipping labels as there are default parcel sizes. We recommend using one default parcel size per shipping method, unless a multi-parcel shipment is intended.

3. Creating a Shipping Method

We'll use Matkahuolto's XXS Package as an example here.

  1. Go to Shipping Methods.

  2. Create a new shipping method by clicking the black "Create Shipping Method" button in the top right corner.

  3. Click the Select Shipit Method button.

  4. Search for and select Matkahuolto XXS Package.

  5. Don't change the name of the shipping method, unless you're creating a shipping method for international deliveries.

For international shipping methods, it's a good idea to change the name to English or something recognizable to customers in the destination country. For example, "Matkahuolto Lähellä Package International" works well for the Baltics, but the Matkahuolto name isn't recognized there. In that case, it's better to name it something like Omniva, since Omniva delivers Matkahuolto shipments in the Baltic countries. If you change the name, keep it in mind carefully — you'll need it later when we move on to Shopify's settings and the Delivery and Shipping section.

  6. Set the currency to EUR for the shipping method. You don't need to add a price at this stage — that will be set later in Shopify's settings, under Shipping and Delivery.

  7. Add the default parcel size you created earlier: 15 × 15 × 3 cm, 1 kg for small parcels, or 15 × 15 × 15 cm, 1 kg for larger parcels.

  8. Save.

Add all other shipping methods you want in the same way, both for domestic and international deliveries.

4. Shopify Settings: Delivery and Shipping

Before adding shipping methods, it's important to set up your Shipping Zones correctly. This ensures that domestic and international shipping methods are only shown to customers in the right countries.

  1. Click General Profile.

  2. Check or create the shipping zones you need by clicking "Add zone":

    • One shipping zone for Finland — add only Finland here, and attach all your domestic shipping methods (e.g. Matkahuolto XXS Package).

    • A separate shipping zone for the Baltics — add the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) here, and attach the shipping methods suitable for the Baltics.

    • – If needed, separate shipping zones for other regions too, such as the Nordics (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) or the rest of Europe — attach the appropriate international shipping methods to these.

  3. Select the shipping zone you want and click "Add shipping option".

Add a new shipping method:

  1. Shipping method name — use exactly the same name as in the Shipit Shopify app. The name is what links the shipping methods created in Shipit and Shopify together.

  2. Flat — leave this setting at its default, don't change it.

  3. Price — set the price for the shipping method.

  4. Estimated delivery time — select Custom, since Shopify's built-in options don't include delivery time estimates suitable for Finland or other destination countries.

  5. Free shipping (optional) — if you want to offer free shipping above a certain order amount, set the threshold here. For example, €50.

  6. Save the shipping method.

Repeat this for all shipping methods in each shipping zone. This ensures that the shipping methods work correctly at Shopify checkout without the CCS feature.

5. Processing a New Order

When you receive a new order, here's how to process it and print the shipping label:

  1. Click to open the order.

  2. Click the "More actions" button in the top right corner.

  3. Select "Label download".

  4. The order is processed automatically and the shipping label is generated.

  5. Attach the shipping label to the parcel so the barcode doesn't fold over an edge — read more at https://shipit.fi/en-US/instructions/shipment-packaging
