Delivery Customization

Delivery Option Sorting at Checkout

With Shipit you can define the order in which delivery options appear in your Shopify checkout. The setting can be found in the Shipit app:

Legacy delivery sorting (traditional distance-based sorting)

Keeps the existing distance-based sorting order.

If you want delivery options to appear automatically in your checkout sorted by distance from nearest to farthest, choose this setting. It is suitable for stores that are not yet ready to switch to customised sorting.

Advanced delivery sorting (customised sorting)

With this setting you decide which delivery methods appear first at checkout.

You can also set rules for how the remaining options are sorted automatically. If you want to display delivery methods at checkout in a specific order, for example always showing a particular carrier first regardless of distance or price, or if you have an agreement with a specific carrier, enable this setting.

Ordered shipping methods (organised delivery methods)

Add the delivery methods whose order you want to control yourself, for example Matkahuolto first, Posti second etc. Any unlisted delivery methods will be sorted according to the sorting rules below.

There are two ways to add delivery methods to the list:

Add method or custom match adds one delivery method at a time. Click the button and select the delivery method you want from the dropdown menu that appears.

Load current shipping methods automatically loads all delivery methods you have created in the app's Delivery Methods section. They appear in the order they were created, but you can change the order by dragging the rows to your preferred position.

You can remove an individual delivery method from the list by clicking the bin icon.

Choose how your list is applied:

Prefer listed methods first — Listed methods are shown first. The sorting rules determine their internal order and place any unlisted methods at the end.

Keep listed methods in exact order — Listed methods stay in exactly the order you have defined. The sorting rules only apply to unlisted methods.

Sorting rules (sorting rules)

The sorting rules determine how unlisted delivery methods or equally ranked options are sorted automatically.

Unlisted delivery methods refer to those that you have not added to the Ordered shipping methods list. For example, if you have listed Matkahuolto and Posti, all other delivery methods such as DSV or PostNord will automatically be sorted to the end of the list according to these rules.

Sort by — Distance, Price or Name

Direction — Ascending (for example nearest to farthest) or Descending

Additional tie-breakers — If two options are equal on the primary sort, Shipit compares the next criteria, for example name or distance

Always pin cheapest option first — The cheapest option moves to the top of the list regardless of other rules

Always put free shipping first — Free delivery options always move to the top of the list

When to use which option?

Practical examples

Here we present three of the most common examples to help you choose the right way to organise delivery options at your checkout.

Matkahuolto always first

→ Add Matkahuolto to the Ordered shipping methods list first
select Keep listed methods in exact order.

Parcel lockers before service points

If you want to show all parcel lockers first at checkout regardless of which carrier they belong to, follow these steps:

Click Load current shipping methods — all your delivery methods will appear on the list automatically.
Arrange the delivery methods by dragging (:::) so that parcel lockers are at the top of the list, followed by service points, and home delivery and other options last.
Select Keep listed methods in exact order — this keeps the order exactly as you have defined it.
In the Sorting rules section, set Sort by: Distance and Direction: Ascending — this ensures that any new delivery methods not yet on the list are automatically sorted by distance to the end of the list.
Click Save advanced sorting configuration.

Please note: if you add new delivery methods later, they will not automatically appear in the correct position on the list. Remember to add them manually to the right position, for example a new parcel locker option at the top of the list among the other parcel lockers.

Matkahuolto first, Posti second, the rest sorted by distance

If you want a specific carrier always first and another second, with the rest sorted automatically by distance, follow these steps:

Click Add method or custom match and add all Matkahuolto delivery methods to the list one by one by selecting them from the dropdown menu that appears.
Then add all Posti delivery methods in the same way.
Select Prefer listed methods first — this ensures Matkahuolto options always appear first and Posti options second.
In the Sorting rules section, set Sort by: Distance and Direction: Ascending — the remaining delivery methods and the internal order of each carrier's options are determined by distance from nearest to farthest.
Click Save advanced sorting configuration.

Please note: if you add new Matkahuolto or Posti delivery methods later, remember to add them manually to the correct position on the list.
