EDIT 12.1. LOCKDOWNS COMPLICATING DELIVERIES ACROSS EUROPE. Significant delays in international postal deliveries.
Let's first go through some things we learned early this year.
We aim to update current guidelines on this specific page.
Package deliveries domestically and globally through Shipit operate mainly normally, though exceptions may occur in delivery practices and schedules.
Package storage times will not be extended by carriers at the end of the year, as delivery points would otherwise become unmanageably full.
Carriers do not provide schedule guarantees for deliveries.
Air freight transport capacity will be under strain, with capacity issues occurring globally.
Pickup point deliveries may experience changes. For example, pickup points may be removed without prior notice and packages may be redirected to different points. Note especially the limited capacity of parcel lockers; we recommend customers collect their deliveries promptly to ensure smooth parcel traffic.
Home deliveries will increase both domestically and globally. This may lead to partial delays in international package deliveries.
There will be major deviations and delays in international postal deliveries, deliveries to certain countries will cease completely, and there are major disruptions especially in deliveries outside the EU.
However, with Shipit you can generally send your package anywhere in the world
Hand sanitizers are classified as dangerous goods and cannot be sent abroad through carriers. Shipit's partner for dangerous goods transport is Cargo Safe.
If you're sending a package to a company, first verify if the company keeps its doors open normally or if they prefer delivery to a private address.
Choose the delivery service carefully, as business deliveries and private deliveries don't work the same way for all recipients.
Courier shipments will increase in popularity for international deliveries and with Shipit you can create shipments e.g. with FedEx and UPS services from the create shipment section.
Exceptions will occur in deliveries and their service descriptions:
Please note that carriers may, citing Force Majeure, cease package delivery or reception if the situation or international restrictions so require.
At pickup points, cashiers currently do not handle customer mobile phones and ID documents and mobile phones remain in the customer's hand. Delivery signatures are not required from recipients in all cases
Deviations in deliveries may occur without prior notice
In business deliveries, the shipment will be quickly returned to sender if the receiving company is closed
Regional delivery exceptions, packages cannot be delivered to certain postal codes
Pickup points will be closed so re-routing will occur globally
Signatures are not always required from recipients and shipments may be left at the door (this practice has been in use for a longer time)
First exceptions are already noticeable in package deliveries.
Ireland has implemented strict restrictions and lockdown measures, causing all non-essential shops to close, restrictions are set to last six weeks. If the recipient is a business, please check case by case if the target company or organization is open and able to receive or release shipments.
EDIT: 30.10. Posti and GLS are restricting maximum weights for certain services, GLS package max weight changed to -> 30 kg, Posti Express Business Day Parcel max weight is 31.5 kg
Globally there are increasingly exceptions in business opening hours. We recommend verifying which address the company wants the package delivered to before sending.
Impact by carrier
We will update carrier-specific exceptions and useful links in this section.
In all areas and with all carriers, the rule applies that signatures are not mandatory for deliveries, instead the driver marks the delivery as completed. Business deliveries operate normally, but it's good to verify that the business can receive packages before sending.
Exceptions in pickup points and deliveries worldwide.
Bring, GLS, FedEx, Postnord and UPS shipments to private individuals abroad operate mainly normally, delays may occur in all deliveries. No exceptions yet noticeable in domestic freight and package traffic.
EDIT: 16.11. General
