Sending a package abroad? Note the AKT strike warning

The Auto and Transport Workers' Union AKT has issued a strike warning in response to the labor dispute concerning wage increases and qualitative issues. To accelerate discussions, the strike warning affects four different agreement sectors and impacts approximately 9000 workers in the truck transport, tank truck and oil product, stevedoring, and terminal operations sectors. Due to the extent of the strike, the impact on international shipments is inevitable.

When does the strike begin and what should you prepare for?

The AKT strike will begin no earlier than February 15, 2023, if the collective agreement negotiations are not resolved by then.

The industrial action extensively affects all shipments both domestically and internationally. The strike's impact will be particularly strong on foreign trade. One reason for this is the overtime ban in the stevedoring sector that came into effect on February 1, which, if prolonged, will burden import and export shipments moving through shipping connections.

Transport schedules for international deliveries cannot be guaranteed during the possible strike, and this should be noted in the e-commerce or websites of companies offering international shipments.
