PAU announced extensive political strike in postal sector - With Shipit you can send packages even during the strike

The Postal and Logistics Union PAU submitted today, January 25th, a notice of an extensive political strike in the postal sector, scheduled for February 1-2.

The strike is a protest against what the government statement describes as radical cuts to working conditions, unemployment benefits, and the right to strike.

With Shipit you can quickly start using shipping services like PostNord, Matkahuolto and DB Schenker, which are minimally affected by the strike.

Posti

Posti's current preliminary assessment is that the political strikes on February 1-2 will cause the following delays in deliveries:

  • Delays in package and freight deliveries may be several days.

  • Delays in letters and magazines may range from several days to a week.

    • early morning newspaper delivery will operate normally for the most part. There may be some individual local delays.

  • Shipments arriving from and departing to foreign countries may experience additional delays of a few days due to industrial actions at ports and airports.

  • Posti aims to carry out pickup deliveries as agreed, but there may be schedule or other disruptions regionally.

  • If shipments cannot be delivered due to political strikes, they will be properly cared for and stored. Health and safety-related shipments are excluded from the strikes.

PostNord

The extensive strikes on February 1-2 will affect PostNord's operations, but the impacts are expected to be minimal.

Port strikes may hinder cargo traffic from ports, and import shipments especially from Germany and Central Europe may experience delays.

Domestically, terminals, transport, and package delivery operate normally, but pickup points in stores may experience staff shortages, which could cause delays or interruptions in package shelving and delivery. Packages can be picked up from parcel lockers as usual.

Pickups from businesses will also be performed as agreed. If you know that pickups cannot be made during the strike, please notify our customer service at asiakaspalvelu (at) shipit.fi

The logistics sector staff strike and the closure of daycare centers in the metropolitan area, as well as strikes affecting public transport, may also impact operations.

Matkahuolto

The possible strike on February 1-2, 2024, will not affect Matkahuolto's package delivery.

Package transport: Packages are transported normally and can be sent as usual.

Pickups and delivery transport: Pickups and delivery transport to service points and customers can be handled normally.

Station and terminal service: Matkahuolto's own stations and terminals will serve normally even during the strike.

Partner points: There may be exceptions in opening hours or services at partner points in Matkahuolto's service point network, such as stores.

DB Schenker

Political industrial actions will affect DB Schenker's transport on February 1-2. DB Schenker Oy is one of the targets of strikes affecting truck transport and terminal operations in Finland. Simultaneously, strikes at ports and airports affect sea and air freight transport.

The company aims to serve its customers as well as possible during this exceptional situation. However, due to strikes, transport may experience delays, and shipments may need to be prioritized.

Land transport:

  • No shifts will be worked under the truck transport collective agreement between Thursday, February 1 at 0:00 and Friday, February 2 at 23:59.

  • The work stoppage under the terminal operations collective agreement begins on Thursday, February 1 at 6:00 and ends on Saturday, February 3 at 06:00.

DB Schenker aims to maintain production during the strike when possible, but due to staff shortages, transport may experience delays during strike days and at the beginning of week 6. In transport prioritization, socially important products like medicines and food will be prioritized. Therefore, certain transport promises, such as DB SCHENKER | system premium transport schedule, and pre-scheduled pickups and deliveries cannot be guaranteed normally.

GLS

The strikes on Thursday, February 1, and Friday, February 2, will affect export pickups and domestic deliveries handled by GLS's subcontractor Posti. The strikes will not primarily affect DB Schenker and GLS pickups in the metropolitan area, Tampere, Turku region, and Lahti region. GLS's own operations will function normally, but strikes may cause unpredictable delays in transport. Possible delays may also occur after the strike ends due to transport congestion.

We are closely monitoring the situation with different transport companies and will update this bulletin with information about strike impacts.
