New regulations affecting UPS shipments will come into effect in the coming months. The changes concern deliveries to the United States, Germany, and Northern Ireland. We ask you to take these changes into account in your shipments to avoid possible delays and problems.
Deliveries to the United States – Product description refinement starting November 12, 2024
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on September 4, 2024, that vague product descriptions will be rejected in Air Cargo Advanced Screening (ACAS). This means that accurate and detailed product descriptions are now mandatory for all shipments to or through the United States.
Stricter enforcement will take effect from November 12, 2024. Shipments with vague descriptions may be delayed or rejected. Product descriptions must be precise and accurate to be accepted.
A good product description answers the following questions:
What is it?
What is it made of?
What is it used for?
Additional product information, such as the size of a water bottle.

Deliveries to Germany – New German Postal Law effective January 1, 2025
Starting January 1, 2025, the new German Postal Law will affect the appearance of UPS shipping labels. According to the new law, packages weighing 10-20 kg and over 20 kg must have shipping labels displaying an icon indicating the weight class.
Shipit's UPS labels will automatically update at the turn of the year. It is crucial to provide correct weight information to ensure all shipments to Germany are properly labeled.
Deliveries to Northern Ireland – New air traffic rules effective March 31, 2025
Starting March 31, 2025, new rules for air traffic from EU countries to Northern Ireland will be implemented.
Shippers must provide:
Commercial/proforma invoice for each air shipment. (customs invoice criteria)
Harmonized tariff code for each product.
Accurate product description at product level.
Product value and currency at product level.
This reform is part of the Windsor Framework agreement, announced in February 2023 to improve Northern Ireland trade rules and clarify EU-UK relations. The agreement includes new data sharing agreements and customs, agricultural, pharmaceutical, and tax arrangements.
Prepare for these changes and ensure your shipments meet the new requirements. Together, we can ensure shipments proceed without disruption.
