SAK strikes have minimal impact on Shipit's partner services

EDIT 5.4.2024

SAK strikes will end on Monday, April 8, and SAK's board will meet next on April 18. SAK has given Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's government two weeks to negotiate, as the government has stated it won't negotiate during strikes.

EDIT 27.3.2024

SAK's board has decided to continue strikes until April 7. The next meeting to assess the situation and possible continuation of strikes will be held after Easter.

EDIT 22.3.2024
SAK and its member unions have announced they will continue their strikes through Easter weekend until April 1. The ongoing strikes in ports and rail freight traffic were originally scheduled to end on Monday, March 25. However, SAK's board decided on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, that the strikes will continue without interruption. The strike affects the same locations as before, but it has been decided to supply fuel to airports for aircraft during the strike, so the strike has no impact on air traffic.

----------

SAK has announced two-week strikes starting March 11.

We have again compiled how the strikes affect the operations of our different partners.

Bring

  • The strike does not affect Bring's services.

DB Schenker

  • The strike affects Finnish import and export transports. Separate trailers cannot be loaded or unloaded without stevedoring work, which leads to the implementation of a separate strike surcharge for international freight. No changes are expected in domestic transport.

DHL Freight

  • Due to the strike, sea freight transport in Finnish ports will stop, affecting both exports and imports. Air freight services may experience delays, but other operations continue normally. During the strike, import and export transport orders include traffic area-specific strike surcharges.

GLS

  • The strikes do not disrupt GLS's export shipments or pickups. While their own operations continue normally, import shipments may experience delays.

Matkahuolto

  • Matkahuolto's package deliveries and trunk line transports continue normally.

Posti

  • Posti's services operate normally, enabling shipments without significant disruptions. Due to industrial actions at ports, shipments to and from abroad may experience delays.

PostNord

  • PostNord continues its domestic transport normally and aims to ensure Nordic shipments using its own fleet.

  • Due to AKT's port strike, PostNord's international packages and pallets will incur additional costs, as without port stevedoring work, PostNord must use complete vehicle combinations for trailer transfers, increasing transport costs. Therefore, starting March 11, 2024, an emergency surcharge of +5.8% will be added to normal prices. The surcharge will remain in effect until the end of the strike, ensuring transport continuity despite the challenging situation.

UPS

  • The strike has no impact on UPS services.

Although SAK's announced strikes currently affect some international transport services, most of Shipit's partners can continue their operations normally. We are closely monitoring the situation and will inform about any changes.
