Have you ever had to figure out what size box a shipment needs when it also includes a sample or a small gift? And how do you get that easily factored into the parcel's weight and dimensions, without doing the math by hand every time?
Shipit Delivery Checkout has released a new feature that helps with exactly that: the app suggests the best-fitting configured boxes and calculates how many are needed based on the available product, box, and manually added item data.
What is the feature?
First, you enable the feature and set up your candidate boxes with their dimensions and weights, then assign them to the relevant shipping methods. This is a one-time setup for each box, though you can still update assignments or box details later on.
After that, when you're creating a shipment for an order and click "Estimate boxes", the app looks at what items are in the order and which configured boxes are available for that shipping method. Based on that, it suggests the best-fitting box or boxes. The suggested dimensions and calculated gross weight are filled in on the shipment for you to review. Clicking "Estimate boxes" does not book anything automatically. The shipment itself is only created once you click "Save."
You can also add items that aren't in the Shopify order data, such as samples, gifts, or packing materials, so they're included in the calculation.
Keep in mind the suggestion is only as good as the data behind it: incomplete or inaccurate product or box measurements will affect the result, and in some cases none of your configured boxes will be a good fit for everything in the order.
What are the benefits?
Reduces manual work and data-entry errors: dimensions and calculated gross weights are filled in from the suggestion, ready for you to review.
Saves time on manual shipment creation, once your boxes are set up.
Keeps you in control: estimating boxes doesn't book anything, so you can always review and adjust the suggestion before saving the shipment.
The feature doesn't require Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS), so it works for all Shipit Delivery Checkout users.
