Changes to Matkahuolto’s international services: storage times, dimensions and a seasonal surcharge for Sweden

Matkahuolto has updated the storage times and parcel dimensions of its international services, as well as how its home delivery service in Sweden works. In addition, a temporary seasonal surcharge will apply to consumer parcels delivered to Sweden at the end of the year. We’ve gathered all the changes in one place so you can take them into account in your shipments.

Storage times for international parcels collected by the recipient

The storage times for Ulkomaan Lähellä-paketti (International Pick-up Parcel) have changed. The new storage times are:

  • Estonia: 7 days at pickup points and 4 days at parcel lockers

  • Latvia and Lithuania: 4 days at pickup points

  • Sweden: 7 days at pickup points and 4 days at parcel lockers

  • Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Czechia and Hungary: 5–7 days at pickup points and 3 days at parcel lockers

It’s a good idea to mention the shorter storage times in your online store’s delivery terms, so your customers know to collect their parcels in time.

Changes to the home delivery service in Sweden

The following changes have come into effect for the home delivery service in Sweden:

  • Deliveries are made on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, and in the largest cities also from 5 pm to 10 pm.

  • The recipient is notified of an estimated delivery date, which they can change if they wish.

  • The recipient can track the delivery in real time.

  • The parcel is left at the delivery address, usually at the recipient’s door, and registered as delivered without the recipient being present or signing for it.

  • If a parcel weighing over 20 kg is delivered to an upper floor of a building without a lift, it will be handed over at street level. In this case, the delivery requires the recipient’s signature.

Temporary seasonal surcharge for parcels delivered to Sweden

A temporary seasonal surcharge will be introduced for consumer parcels delivered to Sweden from 27 November 2026 to 4 January 2027. The surcharge is €0.19 per parcel.

The surcharge is based on a seasonal fee introduced by Matkahuolto’s international delivery partner to prepare for the higher-than-usual parcel volumes of the year-end e-commerce season and to secure the necessary capacity and service level. Matkahuolto passes the partner’s surcharge on to customer prices as such, and it will be removed automatically when the season ends.
