Separate shipment insurance is not available through Shipit. However, additional liability coverage can be activated for some of our services. If you want to insure your shipments, you can ask your own insurance company about suitable insurance options.

Available additional coverage options:

UPS Additional Coverage (Added Liability)

  • The additional coverage must be activated for your customer account before the shipment is created, by contacting customer service. Activation is only done once, after which the coverage is available for all future shipments.

  • The additional coverage is selected when creating a shipment, at the same time as the service is chosen. When using the API, add the declaredValue additional service to the shipment request.

  • The price of the additional coverage is based on the declared value of the shipment.

Pricing:

  • The base fee is €15 + 1% of the shipment's declared value, with a minimum of €10. VAT is added to all prices.

  • The minimum price of the additional coverage is therefore €25 (€15 + €10). For example, if the value of the goods is €5,000, the price is €15 + €50 = €65 (+ VAT).

Key restrictions and terms:

  • If the shipment is dropped off at a UPS Access Point instead of booking a pickup, compensation is limited to a maximum of USD 1,000.

  • The value of a single package may not exceed USD 50,000.

  • For jewellery and watches (excluding costume jewellery and fashion watches), compensation is limited to a maximum of USD 500 per package.

  • Prohibited items include, among others, items of exceptional value (such as works of art, antiques, precious stones, stamps, unique items, gold and silver), money and securities (such as cheques, bills of exchange, shares, passbooks, prepaid credit cards and share certificates), firearms, and dangerous goods.

  • Compensation does not automatically equal the declared value of the shipment. UPS may require, for example, proof of the value of the goods and an account of the damage.

The additional coverage is subject to UPS terms and restrictions.

GLS Additional Coverage (AddOnLiabilityService)

  • The additional coverage is only available to business customers whose payment method is wallet or invoicing.

  • The additional coverage is activated by email through customer service after the shipment has been created, but before it is dispatched.

  • When the additional coverage is used, GLS's standard weight-based liability limit does not apply. Compensation is instead based on the selected coverage limit and the actual value of the shipment.

Prices and coverage limits (excl. VAT):

  • €10 / box: maximum shipment value €1,000 (deductible €50 / claim)

  • €20 / box: maximum shipment value €3,360 (deductible €50 / claim)

Key restrictions:

  • No additional compensation is paid for delays under the additional coverage.

  • The additional coverage does not cover high-value items such as precious metals, precious stones, antiques, paintings, or works of art.

The additional coverage is subject to GLS terms and restrictions.
